PROCEDURES FOR STARTING IMPORTS & EXPORTS

Before one starts the export - import business in India, there are some required formalities must one has to follow.
The following are the aspects one has to proceeds for this purpose:

1. Owning a bank account with an authorized dealer

2. Getting of Permanent Account Number (PAN)

3. Getting Import-Export Code Number (IEC No.)

4. Getting Business Identification Number (BIN)

5. Registration with Excise Dept.

6. Getting membership of Export Promotion Council

7. Getting Enrollment Number

8. Getting Identity Card

9. Appointing clearing House Agent (CHA)

Registration Requirements

Certain registrations are made compulsory for import and export of goods and services to and from India.
For example, no person can import or export goods without getting an Importer-Exporter Code Number from regional licensing authority, unless he has been specifically exempted from getting the same. In other words, registration with the regional licensing authority is a pre-requisite for import and export of goods.

Registration requirement for importers and exporters can be grouped in the following heads:
